- An exploit that a real attacker will happily take off your hands
- A future headache your Cyber team will have to surgically remove

Here is the part nobody likes to admit. Most security issues don't come from hackers. They come from decisions made internally. A rushed deadline. A "temporary" workaround. An overworked developer who just copied from StackOverflow.
This is why I get borderline evangelical about hiring Cyber, Data and Platform talent with the right mindset. Not just technical brilliance. Not just certifications. But people who think in terms of risk, governance and long-term consequences.
Because the difference between a secure platform and a headline-making scandal is often one hire.
What Founders and CTOs Should Ask Themselves Today
If the White House app can quietly grow fangs, imagine what might be happening in your product. Ask your teams:
- Do we know every permission our app requests?
- Do we review third-party libraries regularly?
- Who is accountable for monitoring compliance across updates?
- Do we have the talent to oversee security in a proactive, not reactive, way?
If the answer is "maybe", you already know it's a "no".
