Job Description
Senior Java Developer
Location: Coventry (Hybrid – 2–3 days onsite)
A fast-growing UK electric vehicle business is looking for a Senior Java Developer to help build and evolve the software platforms that support next-generation EV products and services.
This is a hands-on engineering role, suited to someone who enjoys writing high-quality Java code, working on distributed systems, and contributing to software that underpins real-world, physical technology — from vehicle data to charging, energy, and operational platforms.

Electric vehicles are as much a software challenge as a hardware one. As a Senior Java Developer, you’ll work on systems that handle scale, reliability, and data accuracy — supporting EV platforms that must perform consistently in real operating conditions.
You’ll join a pragmatic engineering team focused on clean design, robust delivery, and continuous improvement, rather than over-engineered process.
Key Skills & Experience
You don’t need to come from automotive or EV specifically. If you’ve built reliable backend systems and enjoy solving complex technical problems, your skills will transfer well.
Essential
- Strong commercial experience with Java (ideally Java 11+)
- Experience building backend services using Spring / Spring Boot
- Designing and supporting distributed systems
- Solid API development experience (REST, integration patterns)
- Strong SQL skills and experience with relational databases
- Experience working in cloud environments (AWS, Azure, or GCP)
Useful to have
- Exposure to event-driven systems or messaging
- Experience handling high-volume data or telemetry
- Familiarity with containers (Docker) and CI/CD pipelines
- Interest in sustainability, clean energy, or EV technology
- Experience improving performance, reliability, or system resilience
What you’ll be doing
As a Senior Java Developer, you’ll be hands-on across the full development lifecycle:
- Designing and building Java services that support EV platforms
- Developing APIs used by internal systems, partners, and devices
- Improving scalability, performance, and reliability of backend systems
- Collaborating with engineers across software, data, and product teams
- Contributing to technical decisions and improving engineering standards
- Supporting production systems and continuously refining how they run
