Job Description
Java Platform Engineer
Location: London (Hybrid – 2 days onsite)
A UK-based electric vehicle and energy technology company is looking for a Java Platform Engineer to help build and evolve the backend platforms that support battery technology, EV charging networks, and energy data services.
This is a hands-on engineering role focused on designing, building, and operating Java-based systems that sit behind real-world infrastructure — from charging availability and energy optimisation to battery performance and telemetry data.

Key Skills & Experience
You don’t need prior experience in EV, battery, or energy systems. If you’ve built and supported reliable backend platforms and enjoy working close to infrastructure-level challenges, your background will translate well.
Essential
- Strong commercial experience with Java (Java 11+)
- Building backend services using Spring / Spring Boot
- Experience designing and operating distributed systems
- Strong API development experience (REST, service-to-service integration)
- Solid SQL skills and relational database experience
- Experience working in cloud environments (AWS, Azure, or GCP)
Useful to have
- Experience with event-driven architectures or messaging
- Handling high-volume, time-series, or telemetry data
- Exposure to charging platforms, energy systems, or IoT-style integrations
- Familiarity with containers (Docker) and CI/CD pipelines
- Interest in clean energy, EV infrastructure, or battery technology
What you’ll be doing
As a Java Platform Engineer, you’ll be hands-on across design, build, and run:
- Designing and developing Java services that underpin battery and EV charging platforms
- Building APIs used by charging systems, operational tools, and partner integrations
- Improving system scalability, reliability, and data integrity
- Collaborating with engineers across software, data, and platform teams
- Contributing to technical decisions and improving platform standards
- Supporting production systems and continuously improving how they operate
