Job Description

Business Analyst | eDV, Requirements, Process Mapping, Workshops | Cheltenham
£45,000 to £65,000. Permanent.
Cheltenham. Fully on-site.

You'll sit in the room while a government or regulated client explains what they need, then walk out with requirements a technical team can actually build. And you'll stay with it until it's live and working.

Our client is a technical, data and management consultancy based in Cheltenham. They work for UK Government departments and for businesses in sensitive, heavily regulated industries, mostly on data management, digital transformation and cloud. Their consultants scope and deliver programmes that run for years, not weeks. Your work changes how public services run, for clients who expect you to spot the gap between what they asked for and what they need.

The work happens in secure environments, which is why active eDV is a must. You'll be part of mixed delivery teams: technical specialists, delivery leads, testers and the client's own people. Some programmes are Agile, some Waterfall, plenty are both.

You might explain the same problem to a senior official and a developer in one afternoon, and both need to leave clear. The honest constraint: if you don't hold active eDV today, we can't consider you, however strong the rest of your CV. The client also needs your experience to come from consultancy, government, defence, security or another regulated setting, so this isn't a first step into that world.

The job
Requirements. Planning and running workshops, interviews and stakeholder sessions, then turning what you hear into user stories, use cases, specifications and acceptance criteria. You keep traceability from discovery to delivery.
Process. Mapping how things work now and how they should work. Capability assessments, gap analysis and option papers that make a recommendation and back it with evidence.
Delivery. You don't hand over and walk off. You support solution design, testing, user acceptance testing and business readiness, and you raise risks, dependencies and assumptions before they bite.

What you'll bring
Essential:

  • Active eDV security clearance.
  • Business analysis in consultancy, government, defence, security or another regulated setting.
  • Requirements you've owned: user stories, use cases, specifications and acceptance criteria.
  • Workshops and interviews you've planned and run yourself.
  • Process modelling, current and future state.
  • Delivery in Agile, Waterfall or hybrid teams.
  • Support for testing, UAT and business readiness.
  • Existing right to work in the UK.

Useful: business architecture, service design, continuous improvement methods, benefits realisation.

Who this suits
You've probably been a Business Analyst, Senior Business Analyst or Requirements Analyst, in a consultancy, a government department or a defence supplier. You're the one who asks the awkward question in the workshop because the answer changes the design.

If you'd rather analyse numbers than people, or a room full of senior officials sounds more like dread than a normal Tuesday, this isn't the one.
