About | Xist4 — Data & Tech Recruitment | Bristol & London

Our story

Xist4 was built against the volume model of recruitment.

CVs sent. Calls made. Shortlists rushed. Roles filled quickly, then vacated just as fast.

We saw what that approach produced: good candidates missed, hiring managers let down, and searches that looked busy without being properly handled.

So we built Xist4 to do it differently.

Not a volume game. Not a CV-matching service. A more careful way to recruit for roles where the wrong hire carries a real cost.

We work with a select number of clients at a time. That is deliberate. It means every brief gets proper attention, every candidate is treated properly, and every search is run with the care that complex, business-critical roles demand.

Our work spans data, technology, AI and leadership recruitment across mission-led, cultural and heritage organisations, selected greentech firms, and fast-growing tech start-ups and scale-ups.

Hiring done well changes things. The organisation gets someone who can actually do the job. The person lands somewhere they can contribute. And the team around them is stronger for it.

That is what we are here for.

How we work

Every search starts with a proper brief.

Not a job description handed over and worked, but a real conversation about what the role needs to achieve, who will thrive in it, and what might put the right people off.

From there, we map the market, build a considered shortlist and manage the candidate journey from first approach through to offer and start date.

We stay close to both sides throughout, so nothing important gets missed and nothing catches anyone off guard.

Our commitment does not end at offer acceptance. We check in at Day 1, Week 1 and at one, three, six and twelve months.

Because a good hire should still be a good hire a year later.

The Candidate Journey Blueprint

Most searches do not fail because there are no candidates.

They fail because good candidates lose momentum, go quiet, or take another offer while the process drags.

The Blueprint gives every search a clear structure, candidates who actually hear back, and a live feedback loop, so problems surface early instead of at the final stage.

Hiring fairly, hiring well

Some of the best people we have placed had been overlooked by everyone else.

The wrong background on paper. A gap that made people hesitate. A CV that undersold them.

So we look for what someone can do, how they think, and where they are heading, not only where they have been.

Better teams come out of it, and it is the right way to work.

How we do it

The Standard We Hold Ourselves To

A wrong hire at senior level can set a team back a year. A strong candidate lost to a slow process may simply join your competitor instead. And a role filled on paper but not in reality creates problems nobody budgeted for.

We have been doing this long enough to know that recruitment done poorly is expensive in ways that never show up on an invoice.

So every person we present is someone we would genuinely stand behind. Every concern we spot, we raise early. And if something is not working, we would rather have an uncomfortable conversation than let a search drift in the wrong direction.

Twenty-six years in, that standard has not changed.
