The Interview

Preparation is everything and we have compiled the following information to help you prepare for your interview and improve your chance of getting the job you want. Please do read it - it could make all the difference.

The Perfect CV

1. Presentation
Quite simply appearance matters. Use easy to read fonts, keep to 2 pages maximum and don't forget to spell check. Remember, the average CV is only looked at for 45 seconds!

2  Content
Use bullets to separate points and new paragraphs. Include a Summary or Technical Profile to highlight your commercial technical skills and length of experience. Don't overdo bold, italics or underlining - these are  to make things STAND OUT!. Avoid clutter, everything you have heard about ‘white space’ is true

3  Wording
PROOF READ your CV at least 3 times and get an objective opinion from someone else to check form and content
GENERALISATIONS are not impressive. Be specific, and use real examples to emphasise your achievements in your employment. Use size of company, turnover, number of employees and type of industry to back-up credibility

4  Selling
A CV should be more than a list of past jobs. When describing your work experience, ask yourself not what you did, but how well you did it!

The Perfect Interview

Remember, each applicant starts the interview on equal footing. The CV has done its job... the rest is up to you! The following advice will prove invaluable in your interview.

Relax and remember that the client is as eager for you to do well as you are!

2  Expect standard interview questions like ‘why do you want this job’ and ‘tell me about yourself’. Prepare concise and informative answers

3  Be spontaneous and most of all, be yourself

4  Thank the interviewer for their time, and if you like the role you have discussed, remember to tell them!

Following up after an interview is even more critical. According to a 2011 survey from CareerBuilder, 22% of hiring managers would dismiss an applicant who didn't send a post-interview thank-you note, saying that it indicates poor follow-through and a lack of interest in the position.
